Position Summary

The Analyst I, Fraud Operations is responsible for identifying, investigating and evaluating all aspects of Fraud and financial crime related risks and controls, assisting with regulatory compliance analysis and research for Technology Credit Union (Tech CU).  The incumbent is also responsible for assisting with identifying issues and/or areas for improvement in efficiency or effectiveness, and following up on actions plans to ensure issues are corrected. Works with general supervision.

Essential Duties

 

  • Assists with reviewing and conducting analysis on regulatory and legal changes affecting financial institutions in fraudulent activity to determine applicability and impact to Tech CU.
  • Researches regulatory/legal and systems related questions within the Fraud Operations and other departments as assigned.
  • Prepares and presents analytical summaries and findings related to fraud for Tech CU management to assist in decision-making.
  • Conducts investigations on fraud alerts, claims, and other suspicious activity referred to the Financial Crimes and High Risk Compliance group.
  • Maintains Fraud Operations standards for investigations and documentation.
  • Serves as initial contact person for Fraud concerns.
  • Conducts analysis of current fraud trends. Notifies appropriate leadership of operational deficiencies. Provides recommendations for changes in policy and procedures to mitigate risk.
  • Informs appropriate individuals when losses are incurred by the organization, due to failure to follow policy and/or procedures.
  • Educates members and employees on appropriate steps to take when loss occurs or fraud is suspected.
  • Works with Financial Crimes and High Risk Compliance team members and other departments to implement legal requirements and to ensure changes to products, services, and processes comply with applicable legal requirements.
  • Assists with projects, exams, audits, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Provides excellent service to all Members and internal clients.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time; typically 40+ hours/week
  • Flexible schedule within core business hours, Pacific Time, M-F
  • Flexibility to occasionally work from home, work early or late hours, and work extended weekend hours, typically with advance notice.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) with emphasis in business. An educational focus in pre-law or related discipline is helpful. 

 

Experience:                     

  • 2+ years’ experience in financial services industry (Retail Bank, Credit Union, or Commercial Bank); regulatory compliance or financial institution internal audit. 
  • Good experience in monitoring and investigating for Elder Abuse, Credit Card Fraud, Identity Theft, etc.
  • Experience in disciplines of Law Enforcement Financial Crimes and/or Fraud to include financial institution policies and procedures, operations, and analytical skills in the risk management area is a plus.
  • Previous Law Enforcement work experience is a plus.
  • Affiliation with various fraud associations is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:       

  • Working knowledge of USA PATRIOT Act, Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) and related regulatory requirements.
  • Solid analytical/problem solving, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid insight and judgment to initiate timely and appropriate action.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to use and navigate internet and intranet applications.
  • Solid ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid ability to effectively research and report on legal issues.
  • Solid ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize a variety of activities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Solid ability to research and generate monthly fraud reports to senior management.
  • Strong ability to distinguish and manage confidential material and information.
  • Good ability and desire to work in a team environment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a diverse environment, including working with other departments and at executive levels.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with AML software is a plus. 

Licensing/Certifications:  Certifications including Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Fraud Specialist (CFS), and Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) are recommended.

 

Travel:  May be required to visit Tech CU locations outside of headquarters, typically with advance notice.  Will be required to attend offsite meetings or events.  May include some limited overnight travel, typically with advance notice. 

 

Typical Working Conditions:  Office environment with interaction with a variety of internal and external parties. May work remotely as determined by business need and individual performance.

 

Equipment Used:  Routinely uses standard office equipment, including computer, phone, copier and other devices.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting for up to 85% of the day
  • Reading a computer screen and perform keyboarding tasks for up to 80% of the day
  • Frequent speaking and listening to interact with team, management, vendors and authorities in person or via phone
  • Mobility to attend meetings within office building and offsite

Pay and Benefits

  • Position Grade: 104
  • Salary Range: minimum-$72,000, midpoint-$85,000, maximum-$98,000
  • Work Location: The salary range listed is based on working in San Jose, CA. If you work remotely, your salary will be adjusted based on your geographic location.
  • Typical Starting Pay: Most new hires start between the minimum and midpoint of the range (adjusted for work location if applicable), based on experience and qualifications.
  • Bonus Potential: Target 7% of base salary based on company and individual performance.
