Position Summary

The Lead, Data Engineering is responsible for architecting, developing, and managing scalable data pipelines and platforms across multiple cloud environments, including Snowflake, Azure, and Microsoft Fabric. The incumbent ensures the reliability, performance, and security of the enterprise data ecosystem, driving modernization and optimization of both existing and new data infrastructure. The Lead, Data Engineering provides technical leadership to the engineering team, oversees cloud data platform integration and migration initiatives, and partners with business and analytics teams to deliver robust, compliant, and future-ready data solutions. The incumbent fosters a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development in cloud data engineering.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Leads the Data Engineering team in architecting, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines on Snowflake and related cloud platforms (Azure, Fabric).
  • Oversees ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and management of data platforms, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
  • Develops and maintains foundational domains (member, account, product) and reusable data assets (e.g., Member 360, CDP).
  • Collaborates with BI analysts, data scientists, data architects, business stakeholders and vendors to enable self-service analytics and advanced use cases.
  • Implements data governance, lineage, and quality monitoring frameworks to ensure trusted and secure data.
  • Mentors and coaches team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Stays current with Snowflake best practices, certification pathways, and emerging technologies.
  • Manages resource allocation, project delivery, and vendor relationships, as needed.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and efficiency.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time; typically 40+ hours/week
  • Flexible within core business hours, Pacific Time, M-F
  • Occasional extended early morning or late evening hours, and weekends, typically with advance notice

Qualifications

Education:   Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.

 

Experience:  

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, with strong expertise in Snowflake and other cloud data platforms such as Azure and Fabric.
  • 5+ years’ experience in SQL and Snowpark (Python/Scala).
  • 5+ years experience with database design and modeling techniques.
  • Strong experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Financial industry experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of cloud data platforms, data pipeline architecture, and data governance.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects and manage multiple technology initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong quantitative analytics, data analysis/management/modeling, project management, risk management, and statistics skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on credit risk management.
  • Strong business acumen of financial services products and portfolio analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, aptitude for quantitative reasoning, modeling and problem solving.
  • Strong dedication to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to interpret and aggregate large amount of data, and provide an executive level reporting format.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and deliver complex data projects in secure SDLC environments (Agile/Waterfall).
  • Strong ability to consolidate data points across the organization and leverage them to build a suite of robust, timely and relevant reports and analytical tools.
  • Highly committed to ongoing certification and professional development (Snowflake, Azure, Fabric).
  • Solid ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.

Licensing/Certifications:  SnowPro Core certification required; SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineer preferred.

Travel:  May be required to visit Tech CU locations outside of headquarters, typically with advance notice. Employee is required to attend occasional offsite meetings or events, typically with advance notice, and generally not requiring overnight travel.

 

Typical Working Conditions:  Office environment with interaction with a variety of internal and external parties. May work remotely as determined by business need and individual performance.

 

Equipment Used:  Routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phone, copier and other devices.

 

Physical Requirements:        

  • Ability to sit 85% of the day.
  • Speaking and listening to interact with clients and team in person or via phone.
  • Reading a computer screen and perform keyboarding tasks for up to 75% of the day.

Pay and Benefits

This is a grade 109 position, with a salary range from $146,400 to $219,600 with bonus potential of 20%. The anticipated range for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. Tech CU is a pay-for performance organization that benchmarks base pay to the 50th percentile of our market and we provide incentive-based compensation aligned with successful accomplishment of individual and corporate goals. The salary mentioned above is based on working in San Jose, CA. Salaries are based on the geographic location in which you live if working remotely.

 

Additionally, Tech CU provides health care benefits, life and disability insurance, 12 paid holidays and 401k with a company match; along with employee paid voluntary benefits. 7.08 Paid Time Off (PTO) hours accrue per bi-weekly paycheck (23 days per year) and will increase with length of service. Eight hours of Voluntary Time Off (VTO) are granted to full time employees annually to dedicate time to charitable organizations. Leaves of absences are available in adherence with state and federal regulations.
