Position Summary

The Data Scientist is responsible for working with data to uncover insights, support decision-making, and contribute to the success of various business initiatives in Technology Credit Union’s (Tech CU’s) Data Management and Analytics (DMA) team. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful analysis and recommendations that drive performance and growth.

Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Modeling


• Analyzes data from various sources to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
• Develops and implements statistical models and machine learning algorithms to support business objectives.
• Ingests, cleanses, and profiles large structured and unstructured datasets.
• Conducts exploratory data analysis to inform hypotheses and guides decision-making.


Business Insight & Strategy


• Translates analytical findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Partners with stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver data-driven solutions.
• Supports strategic planning through forecasting, scenario modeling, and performance analysis.


Communication & Collaboration


• Presents findings in a clear and accessible way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Works closely with internal teams to align goals and shares insights.


Process Improvement & Innovation


• Recommends enhancements to data processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Stays informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.


Work Schedule


• Full-time; typically 40+ hours/week
• Flexible within core business hours, Pacific Time, M-F
• Occasional extended early morning or late evening hours, and weekends, typically with advance notice

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in quantitative fields such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics, or a related field.


Experience:


• 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.
• Solid experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization.
• Solid experience working collaboratively across departments.
• Experience in marketing analytics is a plus.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


• Strong proficiency in data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, MATLAB, etc.)
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Excellent ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Highly adaptive and open to changes as the organization grows and its needs evolve.


Licensing/Certifications: None required.


Travel: May be required to occasionally attend offsite training, meetings or events, typically with advance notice. Overnight travel unlikely.


Typical Working Conditions: Office environment with interaction with a variety of internal and external parties. May work remotely as determined by business need and individual performance.


Equipment Used: Routinely uses standard office equipment, including computer, phone, copier and other devices.


Physical Requirements: 


• Speaking and listening to interact with internal and external parties in person or via phone.
• Reading a computer screen and performing keyboarding tasks for up to 70% of the day.
• Sitting at desk and/or conference table for extended periods of time.
• Mobility to attend meetings within office building and offsite.

Pay and Benefits

This is a grade 108 position, with a salary range from $127,200 to $184,800 with bonus potential of 15%. The anticipated range for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. Tech CU is a pay-for performance organization that benchmarks base pay to the 50th percentile of our market and we provide incentive-based compensation aligned with successful accomplishment of individual and corporate goals. The salary mentioned above is based on working in San Jose, CA. Salaries are based on the geographic location in which you live if working remotely.
