Position Summary

The Universal Banker assists the Retail Banking organization with implementation of sales plans, quality member service and daily operations that support product sales and service objectives for Technology Credit Union (Tech CU). This includes, but is not limited to, opening new accounts, cross-sale activities, cash/transactions, loan services, business development, training, coaching and compliance.  The incumbent will support all elements of the Service Level Agreement.

 

The Universal Banker is expected to work at any location where a staffing need is required, regardless of the type of need.  These responsibilities and duties will be conducted while operating under the Tech CU policies, procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

Service/Operations

  • Serves in multiple, temporary assignments to provide coverage for Branch Managers, Sr. Relationship Bankers and other Retail Banking positions as necessary to ensure the smooth running of daily operations.
  • Models exemplary member service and all Tech CU Service Level Standards.
  • Provides outstanding transaction/cash management. Receives and dispenses various denominations of coin and currency.  Accurately processes all transactions. Handles each transaction efficiently and with appropriate discretion.  May conduct major vault transactions and transfers; conducts cash counts and audits when required.
  • Promotes available access channels (i.e. Mobile, Online banking and ATM options).
  • Adheres to all applicable compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports and models Tech CU privacy and security policies. May conduct daily close-out procedures in absence of branch management.
  • Participates in staff meetings.

Sales

  • Opens/processes new member accounts, loan applications, and referrals. Honors commitments to members, ensures member satisfaction, and proactively offers additional products/services. 
  • Engages in consultative sales techniques, actively develops new business, and expands existing relationships. Maintains current knowledge of Tech CU and competitor products. Accurately explains features and benefits of Tech CU products. Defines member needs, explains solutions, recommends action, and handles resistance in a consultative manner.
  • Builds client relationships through active outreach. Participates in on-sites and attends networking activities.  Staffs financial center promotions and events.  Travels to other locations as directed by management.
  • Participates in Business Development outreach including Partner company visits and on-sites, for the purpose of generating new business, strengthening relationships, and building brand awareness.
  • Provides back-up for the 1st Mortgage Loan Processor including document collection, distribution of disclosures, file assembly and verifications while adhering to Credit Union policies and procedures as well as regulatory guidelines.

Training Support

  • Facilitates/coaches the staff in targeted skill-building programs/courses supporting the development of Retail Bank employees.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on topics/programs that originate from Tech CU’s Learning & Development Department. Models desired behaviors/skills from development programs.
  • Proactively guides individuals to achieve results; accurately assesses strengths and development needs of employees relative to training initiatives.

 

Work Schedule

Full-time; typically 37-40 hours/week

8:45am-5:15pm, M-F, rotating Saturdays 9:30am-2:30pm 

Occasional overtime

Flexibility to occasionally work early or late hours, and extended weekend hours, typically with advance notice

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline or equivalent work experience.

 

Experience:   4-5 years’ experience in related disciplines, including exposure to leadership/management roles, business and consumer financial products, and related policies and procedures.    

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • This “floating” position requires travel throughout the Tech CU Branch system. The schedule may change at any time based on business needs.
  • The incumbent has significant experience assisting members with a full range of financial products and services, including the resolution of escalated member issues.
  • Ability to participate, sustain performance and coach a high-energy team.
  • Strong sales/service, leadership and team orientation.
  • Strong organization and verbal/written communications skills. 
  • An understanding of financial products/services and industry regulations is essential.
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Licensing:  Must maintain registration with Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) under Tech CU’s company registration.

 

Travel:  Holds a clear & valid California Drivers’ License.  Possesses current automobile insurance.  Willing to travel as required and to drive one’s own auto to conduct Tech CU business.

 

Equipment Used:  Routinely uses standard office equipment, including computer, phone, copier and other devices.

 

Physical Requirements:   This position requires:

  • Sight to distinguish between various denominations of coin and currency.
  • Standing for up to 4 hours per day.
  • Reading a computer screen for 70% of the day.
  • Bending or stooping to reach lower drawers.
  • Occasional lifting (25 pounds or less) may be necessary.

PAY AND BENEFITS

This is a grade 104 position, with a salary range from $68,400 to $95,600 with bonus potential of 7%. The anticipated range for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. Tech CU is a pay-for performance organization that benchmarks base pay to the 50th percentile of our market and we provide incentive-based compensation aligned with successful accomplishment of individual and corporate goals. The salary mentioned above is based on working in San Jose, CA. Salaries are based on the geographic location in which you live if working remotely.

 

Additionally, Tech CU provides health care benefits, life and disability insurance, 12 paid holidays and 401k with a company match; along with employee paid voluntary benefits. 5.54 Paid Time Off (PTO) hours accrue per bi-weekly paycheck (18 days per year) and will increase with length of service. Eight hours of Voluntary Time Off (VTO) are granted to full time employees annually to dedicate time to charitable organizations. Leaves of absences are available in adherence with state and federal regulations.
